Finding Your Container ID
Your GTM Container ID starts with "GTM-" and can be found in your Google Tag Manager account:
Go to Google Tag Manager
Visit tagmanager.google.com and sign in to your account.
Select your container
Click on your web container from the account list. If you don't have one, create a new container for "Web".
Find the Container ID
Your Container ID is displayed at the top of the workspace. It looks like GTM-XXXXXXX.
Adding GTM to Your Forms
Open your form settings
Go to your form in the dashboard and click on the "Integrate" tab.
Find Google Tag Manager
Scroll down to the Google Tag Manager section under Tracking & Analytics.
Enter your Container ID
Paste your Container ID (e.g., GTM-XXXXXXX) into the input field.
Save your changes
Click Save. GTM will now load on your form, enabling all tags in your container.
Data Layer Events
Orbit pushes events to the GTM data layer that you can use to trigger tags:
| Event Name | When It Fires |
|---|---|
orbit_form_view | When a visitor loads your form |
orbit_form_start | When a user starts filling out the form |
orbit_form_submit | When a user submits the form |
Pro tip: Create triggers in GTM based on these events to fire your conversion tags exactly when you need them.
Setting Up Triggers in GTM
To use Orbit events in Google Tag Manager:
- Go to Triggers in your GTM container
- Create a new trigger with type "Custom Event"
- Enter the event name (e.g., orbit_form_submit)
- Use this trigger to fire your conversion tags
Troubleshooting
Tags not firing?
Make sure you've published your GTM container after making changes. Use GTM's Preview mode to debug and verify tags are firing correctly.
Invalid Container ID?
Make sure your ID starts with "GTM-" followed by 7 characters (e.g., GTM-XXXXXXX).
Custom events not showing in GTM?
Enable Preview mode in GTM, then load your form. You should see Orbit events in the Preview panel when you interact with the form.
Important Notes
Avoid duplicate tracking: If you add GA4 or Meta Pixel through GTM, don't also add them directly in the Orbit form settings. This will cause duplicate events.
