Creating Sequences
Learn how to build, configure, and activate your first outreach sequence step by step.
Building Your First Sequence
- 1Navigate to Sequences
From your dashboard, click "Sequences" in the left sidebar to open the sequences page. Then click "Create Sequence" to get started.
- 2Name your sequence
Give your sequence a descriptive name like "New Lead Follow-up" or "Demo Request Outreach". You can change this later at any time.
- 3Configure settings
Set up your send-from email account, follow-up schedule, email threading, and exit criteria. See the configuration details below.
- 4Add steps
Add email and SMS steps to your sequence with delays between them. Each step can be fully customized with personalization variables.
- 5Activate
Once your steps are configured and validated, click "Activate" to make the sequence live. You can then start enrolling contacts.
Configuration Settings
Configure how your sequence sends messages. These settings apply to all steps in the sequence.
Send From
Select which connected email account to send from. Emails will appear in that account's sent folder, and replies will arrive in its inbox. You must have at least one Gmail account connected. Outlook support coming soon.
Follow-up Settings
Control when follow-up emails are sent to keep your outreach professional.
- • Business days only — Skip weekends and only send on weekdays
- • Send window — Set start and end times (e.g., 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
- • Timezone — Choose the timezone for your send window
Email Settings
Fine-tune how your sequence emails behave.
- • Thread emails — Send follow-ups as replies in the same thread
- • Include signature — Append your email signature to each message
- • Unsubscribe link style — Choose between a text link or small footer text
Exit Criteria
Define conditions that automatically stop the sequence for a contact.
- • Reply received — Stop when the contact replies to any email in the thread
- • Meeting booked — Stop when a meeting is scheduled with the contact
Activation Requirements
Before you can activate a sequence, it must pass these validation checks:
- At least one step exists in the sequence
- All email steps have a subject line and body content
- All SMS steps have message content
- A connected email account is selected in Send From
- Salesmsg connection is active (if SMS steps are included)
Sequence States
Sequences have three possible states that control whether they send messages.
Draft
The sequence is being built and hasn't been activated yet. No messages will be sent. This is the default state when you create a new sequence.
Active
The sequence is live. Enrolled contacts will receive messages according to the configured steps and delays.
Paused
The sequence is temporarily stopped. No messages will be sent, but all enrollments are preserved. Resume at any time to continue sending.
Tip
You can pause an active sequence at any time without losing enrollments. When you resume, contacts will pick up exactly where they left off in the sequence.
