Email & SMS Steps
Build multi-step outreach campaigns with email and SMS steps, personalization variables, and configurable delays between each touchpoint.
Email Steps
Email steps let you send personalized emails from your connected Gmail account. Each email step includes (Outlook support coming soon):
Subject Line
Write a compelling subject line for each email. Supports personalization variables like {{ first_name }}. When email threading is enabled, follow-up emails use "Re:" prefixed to the original subject.
Email Body
Compose your email body using the rich text editor. Format text with bold, italic, links, and bullet points. Insert personalization variables anywhere in the body to customize each message for the recipient.
SMS Steps
SMS steps send text messages through your connected Salesmsg account. They are perfect for short follow-ups and time-sensitive outreach.
Message Text
Write your SMS message in plain text. Personalization variables are supported. A character counter shows the length of your message, helping you stay within SMS limits.
Requires Salesmsg: SMS steps require an active Salesmsg connection. Connect it from your Integrations page before adding SMS steps.
Delays Between Steps
Add delays between steps to space out your outreach naturally. Configure each delay with the following options:
Days
e.g., 2 days
Hours
e.g., 4 hours
Minutes
e.g., 30 min
Immediately
No delay
Variable Personalization
Use the variable picker to insert dynamic fields into your email subjects, email bodies, and SMS messages. Variables are replaced with actual values for each contact at send time.

Tip
Use {{ first_name }} to personalize emails—it falls back gracefully if the field is empty, so your email will still read naturally without awkward blank spaces.
Auto-Save
All changes to your steps—subject lines, email bodies, SMS messages, and delay configurations—are saved automatically with a 600ms debounce. You'll see a subtle save indicator when changes are being persisted. No need to click a save button.
